Press these 4 acupressure points daily to lose weight

Acupressure is an ancient Chinese healing method which focuses on putting pressure with fingers on particular pressure points all over the body. From tension headaches, nausea, backache to sleep problems, this traditional Chinese therapy is known to heal a variety of physical and mental ailments.

Acupressure functions on the basic principle of applying targeted external physical pressure on a few, easy to access body parts. This ancient healing practice also claims to aid weight loss by boosting metabolism.

The best part, however, is the fact that you don’t need any assistance as it is something you can practice on your own to speed up your quest to lose weight. There are a lot of easy to massage points all over your body where you can apply pressure with your fingers to aid weight loss.

Here are 4 pressure points to boost your metabolism and lose weight:

Upper lip

Apply gentle pressure on the space between your upper lip and nose (philtrum). Make sure to apply moderate pressure right in the centre of the philtrum. This pressure point is known as the shuigou spot.

You can also massage this spot in a circular motion for 2-3 minutes every day to stimulate metabolism.

Inner elbow

Bend your arm slightly to locate this point on the inner elbow. This pressure point is located an inch below from the crease of your elbow joint, towards your inner elbow. Press this point daily for 2-3 minutes with your thumb. It helps in stimulating the intestinal function

Ear point

To locate this point, simply place your finger where your jaw starts from. Move your jaw up and down and put your finger on the pressure point with the most movement. Press this point with your forefinger for 1-2 minutes daily.

Pressing this point which is located just beneath your earlobe helps in controlling appetite

Thumb point

Locate the pressure point on the bottom part of your thumb and apply pressure. It will stimulate the thyroid gland and increase your metabolism. Apply pressure on the point for around two minutes daily.

The bottom line

Since there are a lot of pressure points which help in weight loss, try all the points until you find the one you are most comfortable with. While there is no known side-effect of acupressure, you must stop doing it if you are not comfortable with the results.

Remember that acupressure is just a complementary therapy for weight loss and you cannot use it as a substitute for working out and clean eating.
